5 Things I Should Start Doing in 2017 (But Probably Won’t Because I’m Lazy)

Happy New Year Y’all!

Now that the new year is here, I (like every other person on the planet) am putting thought into my new year’s resolutions. To be honest, I’ve never really been a fan of the idea. I’m completely fine with how I am as a person, so the idea of changing myself seems unnecessary.

That being said, I could stand to make some changes to my everyday life. So in today’s post, I’m going to share a few habits I would like to adopt in 2017 and why my laziness will most likely keep me from sticking to them.

Let’s get on to the 5 things I should be doing in 2017!

Even though I set my alarm for 5:30, I almost always hit snooze until 6. Then I’ll be on my phone for at least half an hour before getting in the shower. They always take forever because I just stand there thinking about nothing. When I’m finally clean, I stare at my full wardrobe convinced that I have nothing to wear. Before I know it, it’s 7:45 and instead of leaving on time, I’m still trying to find shoes that match. What a disaster. Being stressed early in the morning isn’t fun, and I hate that I keep doing this to myself day after day. I would love to actually get out of bed when my alarm goes off. Having enough time to enjoy a cup of tea, meditate, work out, and put myself together calmly would be a dream come true.

Why it probably won’t happen: Hitting snooze just feels so good, y’all. I really flippin’ love sleep.

Healthy eating went out the window for most of us over the past few weeks, so I don’t feel bad about pigging out over Christmas. But even before the holidays, I felt like I was always snacking, and I’m already doing the same in 2017. Every time the Viking and I go to the grocery store, we make sure to pick up some snacks, and a couple hours later, I’m devouring them while watching tv. I know that giving up snacking completely is a little unrealistic. But it would nice to substitute carrots and hummus (and other other healthy goodies) into my nightly snacking schedule. It shouldn’t even be that difficult because I like to eat those things anyway.

Why it probably won’t happen: I just like unhealthy snacks, ok! Plus, popcorn is by far my favorite food.

Even though most people would describe me as an extrovert, I’m 100% a homebody. I love being lazy and enjoying cozy nights in. However, it becomes problematic when I find myself making excuses just because I can’t be bothered to leave the apartment. It especially happens at this time of year because it’s so cold I just want to wrap myself up in a blanket until spring. But I don’t want these excuses to keep me from quality time with my friends, so I would like to make more of an effort to leave the house and be social.

Why it probably won’t happen: You try leaving the house when you have a puppy sleeping on your lap…

I’m pretty obsessed with the idea of my bullet journal, but I find it difficult to keep up with. Right now, it’s pretty simple and minimalistic, but I would enjoy getting more creative with the pages. I’m just not making time for it, and that makes me a little sad. It’s fun to organize and reflect on your day, and I should be making it more of a priority. I also have lesson plan pages in my journal that get neglected, so it would be beneficial if I spent more time planning out my lessons as well.

Why it probably won’t happen: I wake up too late/fall asleep on the couch watching Netflix and completely forget about my journal. Whoops.

I have had this blog over a year and a half and only have a small amount of posts (I’m pretty sure it’s around 60 or so). There were months where I didn’t post a single thing at all! That’s no way to build a blog. This year I really want to buckle down and post regularly. I’d be happy with 2-3 times a week, but with work and class, I always justify not posting by saying I’m too ‘busy’. Meanwhile, I binge watch makeup tutorials on a regular basis. I also want to be more active when it comes to Twitter and Instagram as well. I want to consistently schedule tweets, post at least every other day on Instagram, and interact with other bloggers on the platforms. I’m usually scrolling those apps on my phone anyway. Might as well start using them.

Why it probably won’t happen: I’ll want to fall back on the usual excuse of ‘I’m too busy.’ But I’m actually going to try to put more effort into this.

I really enjoyed writing this post because it gave me chance to poke a little fun at my laziness. I’m not trying to overhaul my life drastically, but I want to show myself that I won’t kill me to put a bit of effort into the little things that interest me. Maybe at the end of this year, I’ll revisit this list. If I manage to check off some the items, that would be awesome. But if I don’t, then that’s ok too.

Did you make any resolutions this year? Do you also find them difficult to stick to?

  1. I relate so much to the journaling part! I actually started bullet journaling but it feels like me handwriting isn’t neat enought.. As it’s just so hard to get it to look pretty i stoped. Instad I started a “normal” journal where I can just write whatever I want, make lists and just let my thought roll. As I just stared it i’m not sure if i will stick with it but i really enjoy it at the moment. I hope you find your way of journaling 🙂
